Kim Mulkey, her former LSU coach, had come to see her steer the Atlanta Dream to a 2-1 lead over the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.

After the 97-71 win, Reese talked about the conversation she had with Mulkey.

"Her words, I can't share. But she just kept telling me to just go get it. like, go get it, don't stop, and just two more. I won a championship with her, and I remember how that felt, and being able to do it again with this group is going to feel even more special."

When Reese, a former standout from Maryland, announced in May 2022 that she would be transferring to LSU, she cited Mulkey's "winning culture" as a deciding factor in choosing her destination. Eleven months later, both coach and prized recruit were celebrating the Tigers' first national title in women's basketball.

Now a three-time WNBA All-Star and freshly minted Defensive Player of the Year, Reese is indeed two wins away from winning a championship on the next level. Averaging 21.7 points and 13.3 rebounds per game in the finals, she is in position to win WNBA Finals MVP as well if all goes according to Atlanta's plan.

Two-time WNBA champion DeWanna Bonner knows what playoff brilliance in the WNBA looks like. As far as Angel Reese goes, Bonner understands that she is in the presence of greatness.

In an interview with a local Atlanta news program, Bonner was asked how Reese's playoff performance stacks up in comparison to other exceptional postseason outings she's seen in her 17 WNBA seasons:

"You always need that dominant force, so it ranks up there pretty high for performances in the playoffs, especially by someone who's (in the playoffs for) the first time. That's pretty impressive. so, even now, I'm at a loss for words."

Both Reese and Bonner were added to the Dream lineup this year, and they have turned out to be high-quality acquisitions who power the team on both ends of the floor.
