The Chargers remain the NFL's last winless team, falling to 0-7.
After some early offensive struggles, the Rams dominated the middle eight minutes of the game to win an ugly one. They scored the go-ahead touchdown just prior to halftime and increased their lead on their opening drive of the second half, keeping the Chargers at arm's distance for the rest of the game.
It's the worst start to a season for the Chargers since 2000, when Jim Harbaugh was quarterback.
Matthew Stafford threw an early pick and was having trouble getting things going. But he found Puka Nacua on a third-quarter TD pass, giving the Rams just enough offense. Stafford finished the game 17-of-25 passing for 157 yards.
Kyren Williams and Blake Corum each ran for scores as the Rams seized control of the game. The Rams ran for 129 yards, at 4.8 yards per carry. On a so-so day offensively, the run game helped lift the Rams.
The Chargers had their chances to end the schneid, coming off a bye and playing in their home stadium, even though it was considered a Rams home game. The Rams also looked extremely sluggish early, failing to earn a first down on their first five possessions.
That allowed the Chargers to take an early 9-3 lead. Herbert completed 24-of-32 passes for 257 yards but also had two killer interceptions — his ninth and 10th on the season — that led to 10 Rams points. He's thrown a pick in each of his seven games this season, which has happened only one other time since the 2000 season.
The Chargers settled for three field goals, with head coach Jim Harbaugh passing on going for it on two fourth-and-2 plays and one fourth-and-3.
Immediately after taking the 9-3 lead, the Rams stormed down the field to take the lead, 10-9, on a five-play, 66-yard TD drive in only 1:36.
The Chargers never led again. Corum's 23-yard run essentially put the Chargers away.
In a miserable third quarter, the Chargers went punt-interception-punt, gaining only two first downs. The Chargers finished the game with an ongoing streak 27 straight possessions without a touchdown.
The Rams took control as Stafford hit Nacua on a TD pass, weaving his way through a tired Chargers defense with three minutes left in the third quarter.
In a must-win spot, the Chargers turned the ball over on downs at the Rams' 17-yard line. Herbert hit Oronde Gadsden on what was originally ruled a first-down reception on fourth-and-8, but replay ruled that Gadsden came up short.
It was a metaphor for the Chargers' season, which has remained a major disappointment.
The Rams got the first down that they needed. The offense had the ball the last 4.5 minutes of the game.
The Chargers remain winless and the only team in the league without a victory.
The Rams take the battle of Los Angeles 24-9.
The two-minute warning is here. The Chargers have 1 timeout and the Rams have a fresh set of downs.
One more first down and this game will be over. The Rams lead 24-9.
The Chargers went for it on fourth and 8 despite being on the Rams' 24-yard line. Trailing 24-9, three points doesn't really help them.
Justin Herbert found tight end Oronde Gadsden for a gain of seven. He was initially ruled to have gotten the first down from a generous spot, but replay assist overturned it and confirmed that he was short.
The Rams take over leading 24-9 with 6:39 left.
The Rams have opened up the fourth quarter with a punt. They ran five plays and picked up 20 yards, but weren't able to extend the drive.
The Rams still lead 24-9 with 12:13 left in the game.
Aaron Donald tried to get after a loose ball, but before he could scoop it, it went out of bounds.
The camera caught Myles Garrett riding the exercise bike and laughing at Donald's play.
After picking off Justin Herbert for the second time in the game, the Rams picked up four yards on a first down run by Kyren Williams.
Then, Stafford threw a screen to Puka Nacua and he cut through the defense to weave his way into the end zone.
After the PAT, the Rams lead 24-9 with 3:41 left in the third quarter.
Justin Herbert was under pressure, but threw his 10th interception of the season, leading the NFL.
It was his second INT of the game, and this one looks bad on replay as it looks like Herbert didn't even see the defender and threw it right to him.
The Chargers' first drive of the second half began with a false start. This was ominous and the Chargers then lost four yards on first down, got it back with a four yard rush on second down and then Justin Herbert had a 10-yard completion on third down when the team needed 15.
The Rams have an interesting rushing situation on their hands. Blake Corum has gotten more carries, and he has been productive with them.
The Rams' first drive of the second half ends with Corum breaking off a 23-yard run for the score.
This marks back-to-back weeks that both Kyren Williams and Corum found the end zone.
After the extra point, the Rams lead 17-6.
Justin Herbert aired the ball out right before half time. Quentin Johnston hit the ball and it ended up in the hands of Ladd McConkey.
The Rams defenders kept him out of the end zone though, so it just goes down as a 54-yard completion as the game has gone to halftime.
The drive started with Puka Nacua having a nine-yard reception. Tutu Atwell then showed off the wheels and picked up 40.
Matthew Stafford hit Kyren Williams for three yards and then Nacua got down to the 1-yard line with a 13-yard gain. Williams punched it in for the score.
The Rams lead 10-9 with 19 seconds to go before halftime.
Dicker has hit yet another field goal, this one from 41 yards out.
On the other side of the two-minute warning, the Chargers lead 9-6, but the Rams will get the ball with the chance to make some noise before halftime.
The Rams are currently allergic to first downs. They have had five drives so far, and all of them but one have been three plays, followed by either a punt or an interception.
The lone outlier was a drive that ended in a field goal after three plays.
The Chargers offense continues to look competent, but just runs out of steam.
Kicker Cameron Dicker came on and hit the 46-yard field goal to give the Chargers a 6-3 lead early in the second quarter.
Herbert had a completion on the drive that went 15 yards to Tre Harris and followed it up with a 20-yard completion to Charlie Kolar.
The broadcast even shouted out Mike McDaniel's good play calling after the two plays.
The Rams had the ball at the start of the second quarter, but still can't figure out the Chargers defense.
Finally, the Chargers offense looks alive in this game. Justin Herbert led a nine-play, 56-yard drive that included a 30-yard completion to Ladd McConkey.
The drive did stall in the red zone, but Cameron Dicker was able to hit the 34-yard field goal to tie the game right at the end of the first quarter.
The Rams were unable to fully capitalize on the field position gained after intercepting Justin Herbert.
After picking up eight on two completions, Matthew Stafford had an incompletion.
This set up a 30-yard field goal for Brandon McManus, and he made it.
Justin Herbert's rough start to the season continues.
He has thrown his ninth interception of the year already.
The Chargers' offense did not improve over the bye week. They have begun the game against the Rams with back-to-back three-and-outs.
Luckily, the Rams had an interception and a three-and-out of their own in the tied game.
The Rams got the ball second in the Battle of LA against the Chargers.
Matthew Stafford and the offense was facing third and six after a false start penalty. Stafford's pass attempt to the sideline was picked off by the Chargers who take over in Rams territory.
